Fit Tip...

Beware of labels promising “real fruit juice”!
Most of theses fruit juices may sound healthy, especially when they promise to have "added vitamins" but juice is basically a stripped-down version of its origins. Meaning, the fiber from the skin is removed and you are left with mainly sugar.
A typical eight-ounce serving of juice packs in 20 to 30 grams of sugar—the amount you’d find in a regular soda!
Sure, it’s better to choose fruit juice over soda, but if you really want extra vitamins, grab an apple instead (the fiber it contains slows down sugar absorption) & wash it down with water.

FIT TIP: Step Away From the Sugar

That's right folks...
Step awaaay from the SUGAR!
(You're already sweet enough)

Did you know that your recommended daily intake for sugar is
LESS than the amount in one can of soda!
YIIIKES!!!

According to the World Health Organization, less than 5 percent of your total daily calories should be sugar.
For us girls that comes out to about 24g & guys 36g...
Click HERE for a quick video that visually breaks that down for you in terms of FOOD!

That’s tricky, given all the sneaky places sugar hides these days...
like bottled salad dressings, ketchup, breads & even MILK!
(Side note: A serving of milk contains on average, 12 grams of sugar! WHAT!?!)
And that's not to mention the obvious sources, like pastries!

A good rule of thumb is to aim for foods with less than 4 grams of sugar per serving,
and look at the ingredients label for not only plain old sugar,
but also high fructose corn syrup and organic cane juice.

Now don't go freaking out on me!  This doesn't mean you have to be deprived
of a little sweetness in your lives!

Here are some of my favorite natural alternatives to plain ol' sugar...

Stevia...
I even just planted my own stevia plant!

Coconut Palm Sugar...
I get mine HERE

Agave...
also available thru BBF or at most local grocery stores these days!

Maple Syrup...
& NO, I dont mean the Mrs. Butterworth type.
Get the "real" stuff people!

I know I was definitely shocked to find out how much sugar has been stowing away in my favorite foods... Especially when it comes to my condiments!
Luckily, I have found some amazingly easy to make & TASTY recipes that I have stared making to replace the store bought evils that I have banned from my household!

Would you like me to share some of these recipes, including one for sugar-free ketchup, with you!?!
If you do, drop me a comment below

RECIPE: Coconut Flour Sponge Cupcakes

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup coconut flour
6 eggs room temperature - VERY IMPORTANT
6 tablespoons coconut oil
6 tablespoons raw honey
2 tablespoons coconut milk - room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a muffin tin with 8 liners
2. Combine the coconut flour and eggs until smooth.
Add the remaining ingredients and stir well.
3. Divide evenly between the muffin tins. Bake until golden and a toothpick comes out clean, about 20 minutes.
4. Cool completely and frost with your fav "healthy" (or not) topping.
and ENJOY!

A few notes:
* I threw mine in the fridge to cool because it was such a hot day & the chill together with the texture of the cupcakes a moist, dense & spongey... SO GOOOD!!!
* My 13 year old daughter helped me make these & once we had the batter divided into the cupcake liners she suggested we add a drop of vanilla on top of each & swirl it in with a toothpick... genius idea Lauren!
* These are a "good for you" treat but you might not want tell that to your taste testers so they wont turn their noses up before they have a chance to try them & fall in the love!  Then you can sit back & feel good about making a treat for your family that does a body good!
